What makes Church Experience unique?

Church Experience is one church with many experiences! We want to maximize the strength of unique local ministry (“many experiences”) while also experiencing the benefits and greater impact of being part of a larger church (“one church”). CE as a whole is led by our Senior Pastors, but each campus has their own Lead Pastor(s) (preacher/local leader), groups, local outreach, worship team, and more. We have one CE Board of Directors, but also have local Leadership Teams at CE campuses appointed by their Lead Pastor. Each campus also benefits from our collective resources, support, and experience to go further and faster than when alone!<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371100960-Worship.avif">We’re not a network or denomination, as we have greater benefits by fully and legally being “one church.” We’re also not a collection of satellite campuses that only stream weekly videos from a broadcast church. We are “one church with many experiences” and we have a unique and beautiful model for ministry that offers support, training, and community, while also providing high levels of creativity at each campus. Together, we get to make a collective impact in a much larger way than any one of us would alone. We each contribute our strengths to our local campus, but also for the benefit of the whole church! As the church has grown, there have been increased opportunities, improved quality, and greater Kingdom impact!

Benefits for a CE Campus

Mission Support is the collective team, resources, systems, technology, and structures that support our CE campuses! Each campus invests about 15-20% of campus income into Mission Support and receives a massive amount of support in the areas below while also being part of the exciting work of building God's Kingdom together through planting new CE locations (our collective missions strategy)! How are CE campuses similar and also unique?

Many people love to shop local/small stores and enjoy the uniqueness, personalization, and authenticity they experience in that environment. However, many people also love to shop in larger national chain/superstore environments where they often experience greater options, accessibility, and increased quality. When you think about how that works in church environments, you often see the unique local churches that are either independent (often small) or part of a denomination/network/association who have high local contextualization, longevity, and deep ownership by those involved. However, they are low in efficiency as each church has to create and manage most things on their own. On the other end of the spectrum you have large megachurches with satellite locations. They can have the inverse strengths and weaknesses with high efficiency, but lower community contextualization (almost everything is the same) and often lower longevity (Campus Pastor turnover due to lack of being able to preach or create is common in many cases). Neither of these models are bad and both have shown great effectiveness! We need lots of models for ministry as our spiritually lost world just needs more Jesus!<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371260916-Baptism.jpeg">Church Experience is striving to land as close to the middle of those two options as we can. "One church, many experiences". We want to capture the efficiency of being "one church" while also empowering local leadership to contextualize the ministry in specific areas "many experiences". However, if we had to slightly fall off center, we would be “one church” first before “many experiences” because we believe the unity, collaboration, and efficiency of “one church” allows us to help the most amount of people experience a full life in Jesus Christ (our collective mission)! Also, we don’t position “one church” against “many experiences.” We are one unified church that has many different experiences! Both are critical in defining Church Experience for the long-term.So, the list of unique aspects of a CE campus below (not an exhaustive list) represent the things that are not done the same at every campus (assume everything else is done exactly the same, but please ask if you have any specific questions). This means many of our systems, culture, software, resources, and more are all identical in order to gain immense advantages for us all together!<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371278675-Welcome.jpeg"> <ol><li data-list="bullet">70% unique/local live preaching. At minimum, every week has some live communication element. Although there are some weeks where the message would be all video (except possibly a brief introduction and a live closing prayer), the large majority of weeks are almost all live local preaching. An example of the use of collective teaching on video would be a 18-21+ minute teaching video for all CE campuses played near the beginning of a new teaching series and the local Lead Pastors finishing that message in-person (and the majority of the messages in the remaining weeks of that series). Most often, Lead Pastors are given the opportunity to choose which week in the teaching series the video will be played and typically have the choice to choose partial video like the example above, or a full 30+ minute teaching video so they can rest or be out of town.</li></ol> <ol><li data-list="bullet">Creative worship planning. Each Lead Pastor has the ability to select worship songs (within the growing CE song bank), plan the order of service within set boundaries, decide frequency of communion (between monthly and quarterly), select creative elements, and more! Although some worship elements are the same across all campuses (each service contains a brief update video/informational video while offering is received and also a closing song), there are weekly opportunities to creatively craft a unique experience. For example, we all start with 3-5 worship songs, welcome, and prayer. The order you schedule those things and how the service flows is largely up to you. We have some required minimums like welcoming guests each week and making sure you request people to fill out their Response Card. We do make some expectations like 'speaking in tongues' not happening from the stage or from CE leaders in the service. We have more direction, resources, and ideas we will provide to assist you in planning a great service every week! You can lean more simple or move toward elite production, but either way we want to give our best efforts to make an excellent service that is well planned out, clearly communicates the Gospel, is modern in style, and is effective at helping more people experience a full life in Jesus Christ!</li></ol> <ol><li data-list="bullet">Unique approach to groups. Almost every single decision for types of groups/Bible studies, when/how often they meet, what they study within obvious boundaries, and more are all locally unique decisions. Although we may at times choose to do the same assimilation or growth classes, most additional ideas for teaching and assimilating could be turned into an additional group idea as long as there is a chance for groups of people to engage in relationship and discussion. We label all groups “Life Groups” with the overall goal of helping people to experience life together in Christ!</li></ol> <ol><li data-list="bullet">Local outreach and compassion vision. Serving the community and outreach events are unique to each campus. Although we don’t typically do large church social events (we focus on getting people into groups), most event ideas could be turned into an outreach event by encouraging people to invite others outside the church and/or communicating the event into the broader local community. Many outreach events can be promoted under our banner of “Serve Our Cities”.</li></ol> <ol><li data-list="bullet">Appointed and unique local Leadership Team. Each Lead Pastor decides how large their Leadership Team is (between 3-12 others), how often they meet, and how they operate/lead together. Although each campus needs to refer to their team as their campus “Leadership Team” (for clear communication across all of CE) any expectations from CE for these teams are all beneficial (for example, character expectations or occasionally providing a book, video, or other resource for each Lead Pastor to give to their teams for the purpose of unified learning on a topic across all campuses).</li></ol> <ol><li data-list="bullet">Options with local CE employees. Each Lead Pastor has a “green light” to suggest who will join their team as a paid CE employee. However, CE has “red light” responsibility (veto authority) by not passing someone on from the interview process which can include a background check, personality testing, and additional interview(s). This tag approach allows flexibility and creativity for the local Lead Pastor and protection for CE as a whole by helping interview potential CE employees. Also, each Lead Pastor is able to allocate the funding for compensation at that campus working in conjunction with the CE Finance Director and according to their available campus funds. Although a Lead Pastor does not set their own salary and benefits, they have the ability to make a recommendation on what their compensation level should be set at personally. For example, some Lead Pastors may work well with more non-paid leaders on their team so they can personally earn more as needed for their family while other Lead Pastors may have a spouse with income and decide to allocate more to local employees for a larger team.</li></ol> <ol><li data-list="bullet">Flexibility with campus finances. Lead Pastors are given the ability to budget around 50% of campus income solely for employee compensation. Campus income is based on actual income at each campus. CE does not typically send additional money to a new or existing campus for payroll as money comes from the campus budget that is received through local tithes and offerings or fundraised externally to fund local payroll and expenses. It can vary widely, but we estimate around $1,500+ of income per person in total attendance per year will be received at an established campus). For example, a campus with 100 people might have a campus employee budget (50%) of around $75,000 not including all CE employees from Mission Support (team and resources that greatly help all campuses, like starting with a team). The remaining 50% of campus income goes to building rental or mortgage and utilities, local ministry expenses/outreach, and Mission Support (15-20%). Each CE campus in need of a building or building addition/renovation also has a designated savings fund for a future CE-owned and operated building in their community.</li></ol>

Lead Pastor Opportunities

We believe every Lead Pastor is uniquely created by God with gifts and abilities they can use to build the Church Experience campus they lead while making a bigger impact throughout all of CE!We strive to heavily support and train CE Lead Pastors so we can empower them to lead larger within CE for the long-term. Here are some of the opportunities available for CE Lead Pastors...<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371566958-GroupLife.jpeg">CREATE<ol><li data-list="bullet">Write their own messages 70+% of the time (with those messages typically being inside a CE series; they also have the flexibility to utilize teaching notes on the same topic by other CE Lead Pastors or fully create their own message from scratch). Team collaboration helps Lead Pastors during busy personal seasons and iron sharpens iron. The other 15-30% of the messages for weekend services are delivered by video from the Central Campus Senior Pastor.</li><li data-list="bullet">Have near complete flexibility to create any groups, meetings, and local outreach they can imagine (within the broad and very flexible vision for Life Groups or Outreach &amp; Causes/Serve Our Cities).</li><li data-list="bullet">Although CE has the ability to veto a new hire suggestion (rare), each Lead Pastor has the opportunity to create and structure their own Leadership Team, employees, and those who serve at that campus within the broader CE vision and guidelines.</li></ol>BUILD<ol><li data-list="bullet">Our model significantly frees up time and resources so each Lead Pastor can be more available to build that campus in a way that reflects their strengths and vision.</li><li data-list="bullet">Each Lead Pastor is encouraged to envision groups, outreach, and other ideas that will build their people and the location they lead (which will impact and influence all other CE campuses).</li><li data-list="bullet">As each Lead Pastor builds the campus they lead, the whole of CE is built up. Growth is continually occurring, which is communicated to and felt by each campus (‘a rising tide’ raises the opportunities and resources of ‘all the ships’). Mission Support is continually strengthened to better resource and assist campuses while also regularly adding additional campuses... growing our shared Kingdom impact!</li></ol>EARN<ol><li data-list="bullet">An initial offer letter (for an existing campus), employment agreement (merging pastors), or budget plan (new campuses) addresses compensation for the Lead Pastor which can increase frequently when the campus funds allow.</li><li data-list="bullet">Opportunity to earn significant raises, bonuses, and other potential benefits exist as the campus grows and/or responsibilities grow (which could include helping coach other CE Lead Pastors with Mission Support).</li><li data-list="bullet">Almost unlimited time away/generous paid vacation and work from home freedom exist. Also, during one month each summer, there is a highly creative combined “Road Trip” teaching series at each campus which allows each Lead Pastor to take a summer study break and/or extended multi-week vacation if desired (vacations may be taken at other times as well).</li></ol>GROW<ol><li data-list="bullet">Our goal is to provide opportunities for Lead Pastors to continually grow personally and professionally. We provide ongoing training and mutually uplifting/sharpening relationships with other CE Lead Pastors.</li><li data-list="bullet">Each Lead Pastor will be assigned a 1x1 coach within CE and also a small cohort of other CE Lead Pastors.</li><li data-list="bullet">Each Lead Pastor will receive an invite to our monthly Lead Pastors Meeting with Mission Support for training, connection, and communication of important information.</li></ol>ENJOY<ol><li data-list="bullet">We work hard to create an environment where Lead Pastors enjoy serving the Lord and being a part of building His Church!</li><li data-list="bullet">A healthy personal, spiritual, relational (especially at home), physical, and financial life for Lead Pastors is regularly emphasized and valued collectively.</li><li data-list="bullet">Local church politics (church votes, local board meetings, controversial local church business meetings, etc…) are largely absent in our model compared to some traditional models of ministry.</li></ol><img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371587050-Community.jpeg">Our vision is for Lead Pastors who join CE to feel like they were promoted into much higher levels of ministry and impact. Future expanded ministry opportunities within CE may also be available with guest speaking at other CE campuses, Mission Support opportunities, missions trips, transferring to/starting another CE campus without having to ‘leave’ your current campus relationally or organizationally, and so much more. As Church Experience continues to grow, potential opportunities continue to grow as well!

Pathways to Becoming a CE Lead Pastor

There are multiple pathways to leading a Church Experience campus...&gt; Launching/starting a brand-new CE campus from the ground up (in a city you feel called to).&gt; Applying to lead an open campus when available on the "Open Positions" page of our CE website.&gt; Merging an existing church into CE. Other partnership options may be available when denominational or other barriers prevent a full merger.Church Experience has successful experience in each of these pathways and will coach a Lead Pastor through the process. You'll be able to read more about each of these options in the next few pages. We hope one of these may apply to your situation, but perhaps God may also use you to point another pastor toward ministry with CE in one of these areas.

Church Mergers & Open Positions

Open Positions at Established CampusesThere are not typically many Lead Pastor openings with CE because we have an amazing team that loves the ministry and we strive to keep them with CE long-term! When positions open up, they are generally filled quickly, but you can check the Open Positions page on our CE website at any time to to see what opportunities may exist at established CE campuses.Church MergersWe realize a church merger may seem like a big mountain to summit and you likely have a lot of questions along with some built-in concerns. However, Church Experience has successfully completed multiple mergers and has the expertise to make this a smooth and seamless transition. We can also introduce you to pastors on our team who have successfully brought their church into CE. We have attorneys and a team ready to help along with a desire to work together to build God's Kingdom in a greater way than any of us could alone! If God leads you down this path, our hope is that it will lead to a season of even greater ministry joy, peace, and effectiveness!<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371616975-WorshipTogether.jpeg">The Merger ProcessAfter sufficient discussion and planning between you and Church Experience, a unique memorandum of understanding and/or articles of merger would be created when your church is ready (along with an employment contract for the Lead Pastor). Both churches would need to officially decide and sign these documents based on what their bylaws dictate (typically a vote would be required by a church board or membership group). This step can come together fairly quickly when the merging church is on board and understands the changes that will be needed.The legal contracts would be binding as a merging church is agreeing to a permanent relationship and signing legal documents to affirm this decision. The Lead Pastor of a merging church would be given a multi-year employment contract with a guaranteed minimum salary. The merging pastor will also be asked to sign and notarize a vision integrity agreement (similar to a non-compete, agreeing that if the merging pastor leaves CE, they will not raise money from CE people or start/work at a church within 20 miles for a period of time).Practically, the merging church would carry on with weekly ministry, but now as a part of Church Experience (with CE name/logo/website/systems/resources/technology/and more), but now with a much greater support system to assist in building up the ministry and helping the leaders. Depending on the assets and liabilities of a merging church, the church merging into CE will either dissolve (only from a legal perspective, most common) or merge into CE with Church Experience as the surviving organization. Upon merger completion, all short-term debt, other financial liabilities, and any mortgage will be refinanced under CE and a monthly building payment plan will be created. Significant building renovations/improvements are often one of the first/largest changes noticed after merger.The merger is considered official after the memorandum of understanding and/or articles of merger (along with the employment contract where agreed upon) have been signed by representatives of both churches and any necessary paperwork filed with the appropriate government agency.

Launching from the Ground Up

You may be considering launching a new campus with CE, but even if you're not, it's helpful for all CE Lead Pastors to understand and own our collective multiplication vision! Process to Launch a New CE Campus

<ol><li data-list="ordered">You prayerfully choose a city where you plan to start this CE campus. Church Experience will decline helping plant a campus within 20 miles of a church you have been recently employed at without the positive written support of that church to avoid splitting off (which many consider unethical). CE will typically decline planting in a very rural small town areas for long-term sustainability reasons, but this can be discussed and CE Meetups are still possible (a smaller version of our full CE campuses).</li><li data-list="ordered">You sign agreements. A small stack of agreements are signed by the Lead Pastor including a Vision Integrity agreement similar to a non-compete (see below).</li><li data-list="ordered">Fundraising begins. CE provides fundraising coaching, help, and training resources for fundraising.</li><li data-list="ordered">Start building Launch Team and meeting regularly. The Lead Pastor recruits initial Launch Team and starts meeting with them regularly (ideally bi-weekly to give time to fundraise/outreach and then eventually weekly). We very intentionally do not pull people from other churches unless they are relocating geographically/moving with you or they are family). Some ways to build the Launch Team include inviting family and neighbors, posting on social media (including ads), connecting with local people in person/coffee shops/sports games/schools, local organizations/groups, printed/online/locally posted advertising, connecting on local social media forums/groups/pages, and organizing outreach events. If fundraising has been successful, there should also be some significant resources set aside for printed and online advertising as well which Mission Support will assist with in deploying.</li><li data-list="ordered">Secure a larger meeting space. CE secures and pays for local rental location through the campus income budget. The local Lead Pastor set the vision/often finds the local space, makes the recommendation, and Mission Support finishes with the contractual side of the rental agreement.</li><li data-list="ordered">Set Launch Day date and service time(s). Working in conjunction with their local Leadership Team, CE coach, and Mission Support, an official Launch Day is set. This can happen at any time of the year, but is most common in the fall, beginning of the calendar year, or sometime in the spring. You can launch with one, two, or more service times depending on the size of the Launch Team, momentum, and available funds for advertising. Two Sunday services are recommended at 9:30am &amp; 11:00am when the campus has the strength to support them. Saturday service(s) have also been effectively utilized with CE which can work when an existing church will rent their building to us on that day.</li><li data-list="ordered">CE Lead Pastor (and sometimes a team) is put on payroll. This can happen sooner or later, but is fully dependent on the campus funds available and monthly income of the campus. These funds typically come solely from the local tithes &amp; offerings of the Launch Team/campus and the external fundraising of the Lead Pastor (CE does not typically contribute supplementary funds for payroll). Ideal target goal for campus employees at launch is a full-time Lead Pastor (still works with a part-time Lead Pastor which is common), part-time worship leader, and part time Kid Experience leader.</li><li data-list="ordered">Equipment is ordered. Working through Mission Support, sound/tech/Kid Experience equipment and signage are purchased as the Launch Day approaches.</li><li data-list="ordered">Preview services occur. The local team executes multiple preview services with equipment and Serving Teams in place at the actual Launch Day location.</li><li data-list="ordered">Launch Day advertising plan is scheduled. Mission Support works with the campus funds available to coordinate a Launch Day advertising plan that includes print and digital communication. Motivating the Launch Team to invite everyone they know and the Lead Pastor and/or Leadership Team calling/texting through everyone they have met to date in the community is one of the best practices leading up to Launch Day!</li><li data-list="ordered">CE begins fund for long-term facility purchase. Each campus has a savings fund and building savings fund (NEXT fund). The campus is encouraged to build margine into the operating budget to save and challenge the people to give 'above and beyond' to prepare for an eventual CE-owned building that can add massive strength and stability to the campus long-term!</li></ol><img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371687924-WelcomeHome.jpeg">Integrity Commitments: We ask a Lead Pastor who is launching a new campus to commit to a minimum of 4-5 years for the sake of the people and long-term growth of the campus, but our hope is that you will be so happy you will want to stay with CE in some capacity for the remainder of your ministry! The Lead Pastor will also be asked to sign and notarize a vision integrity agreement (similar to a non-compete, agreeing that if the Lead Pastor leaves CE, they will not raise money from CE people or start/work at a church within 20 miles for an extended period of time). If a Lead Pastor decides to leave in the future, they are committing on the front end to fully and honorably leave the campus/people with CE and minister in another region if they remain in vocational ministry near-term (instead of splitting the church/campus).

Q: What Lead Pastor factors would be evaluated by Church Experience in someone applying to join the team?A: Through prayer, conversation, research, and discernment, Church Experience will evaluate the potential of a Lead Pastor to successfully lead within CE by evaluating the strength of their character/spiritual life, their ability to lead, ability to preach, experience and/or potential in starting/sticking with hard things, potential to raise and manage funds, track record of launching/growing ministry (for planters especially), alignment of theology/ministry philosophy, and overall health of the leader and their family. Some college level education is typically required (does not need to be completed and may be started while with CE). Q: Would I need to sell out my own vision to join CE?A: Just the opposite! We want to help unlock and maximize the God-given vision of every Lead Pastor and campus! Although we all need to share a common Mission, Vision, and Passions (values/culture), we believe they are broad enough and the opportunities big enough that you can unleash (and more significantly build) the vision God has for you inside the collective vision God has provided for all of us! Q: Are there minimum requirements for how much tech and signage I need in order to launch? How much input does CE Mission Support give in the area of visual design and building ambiance?A: Yes, some minimum requirements exist such as our ideal set-up of a large auditorium center screen (12-18 feet wide screen minimum with high lumens projector), two side screens (minimum 70-85’’ televisions or projectors/screens), and a large center screen in Kid Experience elementary.The visual look of the church building(s) is one area where CE Mission Support provides specific direction and help in designing and maintaining the visual look of the campus (to increase the overall quality/impact of the campus and CE as a whole).<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371736239-FoodCollection.jpeg">Q: Is Church Experience a non-denominational church?A: Yes, we are an independent and non-denominational church! Although we are technically autonomous, we choose to associate with The Wesleyan Church (<a href="http://www.wesleyan.org" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">www.wesleyan.org</a>), a medium-sized, Bible-teaching, Christian denomination that is theologically conservative. We are relationally connected/networked with some of the largest churches in America and also informally connected to ARC (Association of Related Churches). Q: Does Church Experience have church membership?A: We do not have church membership, but view those who are involved in serving (leaders) as similar to what a traditional church model would call “members.” We do not have all-church votes, elections, or church-wide membership business meetings. Q: Are there any other expectations for CE Lead Pastors?A: Yes, there are high expectations for all CE leaders and employees as we are part of “one church” with shared privileges and responsibilities. Expectations are high because all of our choices impact each other. However, our goal is not to restrict ministry, but instead to free up Lead Pastors to enjoy running hard toward the calling God has given them to preach, lead, and love people to Jesus! We view expectations similar to the difference between living in a nice subdivision with some minimum standards for how homes/properties are maintained vs. neighborhoods where people can do whatever they want, however they want, and whenever they want. The difference is a nice subdivision where everyone enjoys living and property values are higher vs. a neighborhood where one person has a trailer parked in the front yard, another person spray paints their fence bright green, and someone else builds an ugly shed next to their house. Expectations allow us all to enjoy being part of a church we feel good about regardless of the campus. We want your friends or family that live in another state to visit a CE campus you may have never visited personally, yet you don’t hesitate on recommending it because you know it will be healthy, spiritually impacting, and of high quality! Q: What if the CE campus I start/lead doesn’t grow to our expectations or to support my personal financial income need?A: We'll continue coaching you, helping you, brainstorming together how we can break that next barrier to growth, and praying with you. Bi-vocational/co-vocational ministry by a Lead Pastor is not preferred in most cases after launch (but a great strategy during the fundraising season), but is a good option and common in many church settings. Increased external fundraising is another way to bridge the financial gap for a struggling campus. Some people may always pastor a smaller campus, but a Lead Pastor’s success individually is not based solely on the attendance of the campus they lead. We are part of a much bigger church together and some people may find their greatest ministry impact and fulfillment from a combination of their Lead Pastor role along with helping advance CE as a whole. We are “one church” and each Lead Pastor shares in the impact of the whole regardless of their local context. Our goal is that Lead Pastors pray just as hard about what God is doing through CE collectively as they pray about the local campus they lead. We rejoice together as all of CE is thriving and impacting people for Christ even if the campus we lead is having a difficult season.We encourage, pray for, and help each other!<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371834389-JustBaptized.jpeg">Q: How is the Church Experience governance set-up?A: We have a Board of Directors (mostly ordained pastors outside CE, led by our Founding Senior Pastor as Chairman of the Board) that serve as overseers for all of CE (highest governing authority, under Christ). We have a Senior Leadership Team with Mission Support and also advisors internally and externally that help us maximize ministry, budgets, and buildings for CE (may be viewed as the senior level deacons). We also have pastors and Leadership Teams at each campus (may be viewed as elders, the ones preaching/teaching and praying with people). The local Lead Pastor is the leader/preacher at the campus they lead and the Church Experience Senior Pastors support/oversee all CE Lead Pastors along with our Senior Leadership Team. Q: What is your view on homosexuality and gender issues?A: We love and welcome everyone who walks through our doors. People can attend before they believe. These are complex issues we treat carefully, but we clearly teach that the act of homosexuality is a sin according to the teachings of the Bible (as is any other sexual intimacy outside of marriage between one man and one woman committed together for life). We also teach the Bible’s stance that ‘God created’ people ‘male and female’ and our gender at birth is a God-given gift not meant for people to attempt to alter. We teach on this topic with great love, grace, and care, but we don’t avoid teaching the Bible’s clear stance on sexuality and gender. Everyone is welcome to attend, but not everyone is welcome to lead. For example, someone practicing or promoting homosexuality (or other forms of sexual immorality) is not welcome to lead a Bible study, sing on stage, teach/lead children and students, etc... This is an important question, but we don't dismiss other recurring and unrepentant sins either. If someone involved in the church is clearly caught up in sin (at least on the leadership level), it is our responsibility to bring it up and address it appropriately with both grace and truth. Q: What is your view on women in ministry?A: We have a lengthy position paper that outlines our theology on this topic for those interested in learning more on how we understand the role of women in ministry from a Biblical lens (please ask and we can send this to you). However, the short answer is that women are allowed in any CE leadership position (including Lead Pastor or other pastoral roles, which we consider ‘elders’ without typically using that word). Although Brandon Bruce is our Senior Pastor legally, both Brandon and Jennifer Bruce are our Senior Pastors practically and lead CE together - overseeing all CE Lead Pastors and employees along with our Senior Leadership Team. Q: What is your view on speaking in tongues?A: We teach that some people believe ‘tongues’ refers to known languages such as what was experienced at Pentecost and/or a prayer language, while other people believe ‘tongues’ is primarily an unknown language. We don’t promote or teach people to try to speak in an unknown language and we don’t practice that in our services. However, we don’t discredit or discourage people who have had that experience, either. Our Lead Pastors and other leaders are asked not to speak in or promote speaking in tongues in our CE ministry environments like services, groups, and teams.<img src="https://d2fctcy41m84og.cloudfront.net/1790371785500-Friendship.jpeg">Q: What is your position on alcohol?A: The Bible is clear that getting drunk is a sin. The line of having one too many drinks is easily crossed, so we avoid the temptation of walking close to the line. Alcohol is a top killer, marriage splitter, and causes many people to stumble (crimes, violence, abuse). We do not shy away from encouraging people to minimize alcohol’s role in their life!We prefer and promote abstinence and drinking should be handled carefully by a believer if they do choose to drink. Casual drinking is not a sin and we are not awkward or judgmental around people who do drink. We ask leaders to carefully consider if it would be better for them to fully abstain and we ask a higher standard of Lead Pastors (below).As leaders on every level, we collectively submit to our CE guideline of no alcohol at CE meetings, groups, events, and services. There could easily be someone in the group that does/could struggle with alcohol (so we avoid temptation) and we don’t envision a culture that promotes alcohol at any CE campus (doesn’t seem wise/helpful). People are attracted to a group that can have fun without alcohol and it sets a positive example for the next generation who often are pulled back in their young adult years by alcohol.If anyone in our leadership community drinks alcohol, we encourage them to make that a private matter and not promote alcohol on social media or within teaching/by modeling in any way.We strongly prefer our CE Lead Pastors to completely abstain from alcohol once leading with CE and have found that to be a blessing in our lives, but if an occasional drink like a glass of wine on an anniversary occurs, it should remain a private/discrete matter for that pastor (and we ask that they not drink publicly or privately with other CE people/leaders in any situation privately or publically). Q: What translation of the Bible do you use and am I able to use other translations when I preach?A: Each campus uses the NIV translation (most widely used English translation) as our primary text in the services. Lead Pastors may reference other translations regularly, but the Bible they preach from and the primary verses on the screen should be the NIV. This allows consistency for CE people when the NIV is used on periodic teaching videos, Kid Experience curriculum, and other provided resources. In a public setting, we discourage consistent references of translations that are harder to understand or lack modern day language. Q: What is the expected dress code for Lead Pastors and those on stage in CE services?A: We want every person walking through our doors to feel comfortable and we encourage a relaxed, genuine, and modern atmosphere.We have a casual dress code that is highly preferred (with room for business casual). We prefer nice jeans instead of dress pants. On stage, sport coats are only allowed with jeans. We don’t allow ties, suits, or formal dresses on stage in weekly services except in rare pre-approved scenarios (no problem for weddings/funerals/special events).
